Big Sur is home to some of the most iconic stretches of coastline in California. Located about an hour and a half from the Bay Area, Big Sur is an excellent spot for a weekend escape. Here’s how you can spend a weekend in Big Sur.
Adventures
Hiking Havasupai is one of the most coveted backpacking trips in the United States. It’s for good reason, too! There’s nothing like the red desert of the American Southwest. Add in the beautiful blue green waters, of which the Havsuw ‘Baaj derive their name, and you’ve got a recipe for magic.
I’m a mountains and desert kind of gal, but there’s something alluring about tropical islands. Warm and clear water, my favorite fruits, and accessibility are the first things that come to mind. You could take a Lyft to hike almost any part of Oahu if you wanted to. Diamond Head is one of those hikes.
The title hiking Wailua Falls in this is deceiving. This popular destination on the island of Kauai really isn’t a hike at all, unless you want it to be.
Hiking Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias, Yosemite National Park
Yosemite National Park is best known for its glacier-scoured walls and high alpine peaks. One of my favorite parts about this famous California park are the sequoias. Hike to Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias off Highway 120 for a glimpse of these majestic, 3000 year old trees.
