It’s another wet winter for California. This means I’m staying closer to home because snow sports aren’t at the top of my to-do list. With rain in the forecast this past weekend, I took the opportunity to head back to Big Sur. I wanted to check out Calla Lily Valley at Garrapata State Park.

Big Sur is home to some of the most iconic stretches of coastline in California. Located about an hour and a half from the Bay Area, Big Sur is an excellent spot for a weekend escape. Here’s how you can spend a weekend in Big Sur.
The Central Coast and Highway 1 are finally open again. What better way to celebrate than a trip to Big Sur? Limekiln State Park is a tiny slice of the California State Parks that should not be missed on this stretch of paradise.
Considering how close I live to Big Sur, I rarely make it out to this gorgeous bit of California coastline. It doesn’t help that most campsites here are booked out months in advance. I got lucky and managed to find an opening at Kirk Creek Campground back in the spring.
I grabbed a few friends and drove south for a relaxing weekend. We had no plans on the horizon, except for maybe hiking Cone Peak.
I’m really good at destroying my pants while climbing. Cracks aren’t terribly forgiving. You can find me awkwardly humping the rock to top out more often than not. 99% of the time I find myself scooting on my butt on an approach or descent. Add in my slob factor and it’s basically a recipe for disaster when it comes to ever looking socially acceptable after climbing. The Black Diamond Creek Pants were the answer to my prayers.
