Hiking Havasupai is one of the most coveted backpacking trips in the United States. It’s for good reason, too! There’s nothing like the red desert of the American Southwest. Add in the beautiful blue green waters, of which the Havsuw ‘Baaj derive their name, and you’ve got a recipe for magic.

I feel like a reoccurring theme in my life is bad weather on climbing weekends. Josh and I drove up to Castle Crags for a weekend to hop on the Cosmic Wall for some nice, runout easy trad, but once again, Mother Nature threw a wrench in our plans.
Oh man, I’ve been way too busy climbing and not blogging enough. Is it okay if I still talk about chasing fall color even though fall color is fading faster than fast? After oogling at glaciers and Mt. Baker the day before, I headed deeper into the North Cascades with my good friend, Jessica, for a romp on the Heather-Maple Pass trail.
I always make it a point to see her when in Seattle. She’s a great blogger friend who kind of just gets me, and I’ve hiked with her previously on the Mountain Loop Highway and at Ebey’s Landing. This time she brought along one of her puppies! Yep, she really did hike Heather-Maple Pass with her wiener.
The best thing about Salt Lake City is ALL THE EPIC things available within an hour’s driving distance. Hiking, climbing, camping, 11,000’ peaks, you name it, it’s there. I called up Jena to see if she wanted to tackle Lone Peak with me and at 6:30am on a Saturday morning, we set off on the Cherry Canyon Logging Trail.
For the Last Adventurer, the hike that he says he’ll never do again and always does is Mt. Whitney. For me? It’s Half Dome. It’s one of those hikes that I swear up and down that I’ll never do again, but each time someone mentions doing it, I always end up applying for a permit.
